Season notes

Editorial notes on the 2026-27 snapshot

Short observations describing the structure of the season preview. Each note is derived only from the fixed labels and power ranking published on this site.

  • Ladder shape

The top eight split into two clean tiers

Positions one to three are title contenders and positions four to eight are top-four contenders. There is no overlap between the two groups in this snapshot, which makes the head of the ladder unusually tidy to read.

  • Title race

Three contenders, no ordering of likelihood

Arsenal, Manchester City and Liverpool share one label. The ladder places them one to three, but the label itself does not rank them by chance of winning, and this site does not add such a ranking.

  • Top teams

Five clubs compete for the European places

Chelsea, Manchester United, Tottenham Hotspur, Newcastle United and Aston Villa fill ranks four to eight. With five clubs in one tier, the group is larger than the number of places it targets.

  • Dark horses

The dark-horse group is not continuous

Brighton & Hove Albion, Bournemouth, Crystal Palace and Nottingham Forest run from nine to twelve, then the group resumes at fourteen with Leeds United. Brentford sits between them at thirteen with a different label.

  • Relegation

The relegation battle spans eight ladder positions

The relegation-watch list begins at thirteen with Brentford and ends at twenty with Hull City. That spread means the battle is not confined to the bottom three rungs of the ladder.

  • Promotion

Promoted clubs occupy the final three rungs

Coventry City, Ipswich Town and Hull City take positions eighteen, nineteen and twenty in that order, and all three also appear on the relegation-watch list.

  • Dual labels

Three clubs hold two labels each

The promoted clubs are the only sides with more than one classification in this snapshot. Both labels are always displayed on their profiles in the club index.

  • Mid-table

Fulham are the only unlabelled club in the ranking

Fulham appear at sixteenth without a tier in the snapshot, so they are recorded as mid-table rather than assigned to the dark-horse or relegation groups.

  • Reading the ladder

Bars show position, not strength scores

The power-ladder graphic uses bar length purely to visualise rank order. No points, ratings, percentages or probabilities are attached to any club on this site.

  • Scope

    What is deliberately absent

There is no transfer coverage, injury news, lineup information, tactical analysis, historical record, attendance, weather, fixture list or ticketing detail, because none of it is part of the fixed snapshot.
